Synopsis

Culture as a “second space” and a path to the interior is the topic of the article. In the first part, the author of the text refers to the work of A. Horubała, who, critically analyzing the contemporary form of culture, points to the depth present in it. He wants to save her and show her the path leading inside. A Polish publicist, dealing with culture, discovers a transcendent dimension in it. In the second part, referring only to one manifestation of culture, namely literature, the author presents how it becomes a space of apology. A. Horubała, practicing literary criticism, clearly enters the apologetic space. Reflecting on works of art (mainly literature, cinema and theater), he looks for their deeper, spiritual dimension in contemporary works, and at the same time exposes the shallowness and emptiness of salon masterpieces. Approaching art in an open way, he asks about the presence of a second space in it. His view is dominated by the experience of Christian faith, which allows him to approach criticism with optimism. Apology, which is hidden in the literary Word, takes various forms. Her name is longing, truth, doubt, beauty. These concepts contain traces of God himself, which the creators of literature want to defend. Apart from the discreet presence of the Absolute felt in the abundance of images and symbols, they also undertake direct apology. Writers and poets therefore defend God, his presence in the world, and the values resulting from faith, and they do it with a consistency worthy of the best apologists of Christianity. In this way, they want to save the cathedral building, which is the source of literary creativity.
