Synopsis

Paweł Łukaszewski is considered to be one of the most interesting composers of contemporary sacral music, and his work raises interest not only in Poland but also abroad. The artist has developed an idiomatic musical language defined as anti-modernism, traditionalism or “novelty rooted in tradition”. Interpreting the composer’s works requires searching for the sources of a specific artistic attitude and focused type of creativity. In addition, it tends to show the special relationship that connects art with the life of the composer, the sphere of his experiences. Łukaszewski himself confirms that he was shaped as a man and an artist by the “wide context of various events”. He mentions among them the family home and Częstochowa — the place of his birth and growing up. Moreover, the Catholic Church’s teaching about music and certain creative fascinations also played an important role. Łukaszewski’s religious work appears to be the artist’s individual path towards sacrum, which the composer has confirmed in numerous statements.
