Synopsis

The article shows that the John Paul II’s teaching on the organic connection between moral conversion and sacramental reconciliation draws on biblical sources and theological tradition. John Paul II continued the magisterium of his predecessor Paul VI, countering the confusion prevailing in moral theology and in the practice of the sacrament of Holy Confession. Without clear and certain ethical principles, without recognition of grave sin and acknowledgement of responsibility for committing it, without reparation, conversion remains an empty though lofty declaratio
