Synopsis

The text presents the role of John Paul II in the context of his activities and views on the problem of forgiveness and reconciliation between nations previously feuding due to historical experiences. The main subject of consideration here are Polish-Ukrainian relations. Against this background, the role of John Paul II in shaping the foundations of the theory and practice of Polish-Ukrainian forgiveness and reconciliation, which — as the author of the article points out — must be integrated into the broader context of difficult matters concerning not only these two nations. The Pope, in fact, proposed the way of reconciliation and forgiveness as appropriate for every nation.
