Synopsis

Liturgical commentaries and the role of a commentator in the contemporary Roman liturgy have been the subject of many misunderstandings which, sadly, are often reflected in the celebration itself. Therefore, the paper revisits the concept of a liturgical commentary as well as its place and role in the current Roman rite from a theological, legal, pastoral and rubricistic perspective. In addition, it presents the substantive and formal criteria that a liturgical commentary should meet in order to contribute adequately and effectively to the process of christian formation that takes place in and through the liturgy of the Church.
