Synopsis

The war in Ukraine caused by Russian aggression caused many families, especially those with children, to leave the country. The children and their loved ones were accompanied by negative emotions related to leaving their homeland, the great unknown of their future, and probably positive emotions that they would avoid injury and death. Joy and sadness took place in these emotions. The question arises: what situations generated joy and sadness? The starting point for answering the above questions is to present R. Plutchik’s theory of emotions in a concise form and to show the place and function of sadness and joy in the structure of this author’s emotions. The second stage presents a review of the results of selected studies on the experience of joy and sadness by pupils from Ukraine. The structure of the research also includes our own empirical studies.
