Synopsis

Adolescent bereavement is a complex process that combines the personal struggles resulting from the suffering caused by the death of a loved one with the challenges and developmental changes characteristic of this developmental stage of adolescence. Be- reavement can be both a regressive process and a path to personal growth. Memories of the deceased can become an integral part of an adolescent’s identity, and the mourning process can lead to a deeper understanding of the self and the value of life. The article presents various aspects of bereavement, including its impact on adolescents’ emerging personality, interpersonal relationships and emotional regulation. Attention is also given to the role of social support and existential exploration, which can help an adolescent find his way in the new reality. Emotional support, presence and attentiveness are key in helping young people cope with difficult feelings such as loneliness, grief and longing. Logotherapy can be a helpful tool in helping adolescents cope with grief. This emphasizes the importance of finding meaning in life after loss, which can lead to discovering inner strength, setting new goals, personal growth and rebuilding the joy of life. The article aims to raise awareness of the unique needs of bereaved adolescents and suggest ways to support them in this difficult adaptation process.
