Synopsis

The culture of death is a totality of attitudes, actions and structures referring to contemporary cultural currents, mainly secularism, postmodernism or neo-Marxism, which question or even negate the value of human life. Aware of the seriousness of the problem, the Catholic Church takes up the struggle against the civilisation of death by consistently proclaiming the Gospel of life. This is because it is convinced that the defence of life is a fundamental task entrusted to it by God. The Church’s promotion of the civilisation of life and love is based above all on proclaiming the truth about the inviolable value and dignity of every human being, created in the image and likeness of God and called to eternal happiness in God. In addition, this promotion emphasises the importance of sacramental life, prayer, fasting and other forms of pastoral commitment. One of the pastoral initiatives in this field is the work of the Spiritual Adoption of the Conceived Child. It consists of praying, for a period of nine months, one decade of the Holy Rosary and the so-called Daily Prayer to save the life of a conceived child at risk from abortion. The identity of the child being prayed for is known only to God. The author’s reference to personal experience and the presentation of the values of the work in the form of an autobiographical narrative is a kind of encouragement for the Reader to join in this prayerful effort, contributing to the protection of human life and strengthening the civilisation of love.
