Synopsis

“God became man so that man might become God” – this theological formula, present in the writings of early Christian authors and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, expresses the fundamental thought of the Church Fathers on salvation. The incarnation of Jesus Christ, as an expression of God’s love, is the central element of the economy of salvation, for by assuming human nature, the Son of God redeems humanity. The Catechism emphasizes that the entire life of Christ is a mystery of Redemption, encompassing His incarnation, passion, death, resurrection, and eternal life. The Church, continuing Christ’s salvific work, calls for penance and conversion, offering the sacrament of reconciliation as a way to renew one’s relationship with God. Despite historical crises, the Church continually strives to renew Christian life through the sacrament of penance, which plays a key role in the inner transformation of individuals. The aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate the importance of this sacrament in light of the teachings of John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis as an essential element in the development of Christian life.
