John Paul II – perspectives for the future of Church and the World
Synopsis
John Paul II is the greatest missionary pope in the history of the Church. In this regard, we might say that the concept of a mission it is an interpretive key to his ministry. The Church facing the secularization advanced by the coronavirus pandemic has to acknowledge the urgent need to continue her mission of evangelization and renewal through a new commitment to her “missionary” Magisterium regarding the family, the parish, and society. New pastoral circumstances caused by the pandemic call for re-examination of the efficacy of parish ministry and provide a unique opportunity for a re-start in the way we think about mission within the parish community. The future of the Church may depend upon the extent to which the parish priest may see himself as a missionary. There is a need for a new parish-based evangelization marked by the witness of believers conscious of a calling to be missionary disciples.
