Totus Tuus – from the words of St. Louis Maria Grignon de Montfort to the musical implementation in a cappella choral compositions
Synopsis
The author of the article, starting from the genesis of the invocation “Totus Tuus” addressed to St. Mary, explains the theological meaning of this phrase and examines its role in the culture, also in its contemporary musical life. The study continues with the analysis of four musical compositions, whose authors Henryk M. Górecki, Ambrož Čopi, Michael J. Trotta and Jacek Glenc used this phrase (or its extension) as text in musical works intended for a cappella choir. By examining the characteristics of these compositions the author indicates significant similarities and differences.
