Synopsis

The collective volume Mission: the Essence and Glory of the Catholic Church explores the multifaceted nature of the Church’s mission, rooted in the Holy Trinity and revealed throughout salvation history. Written by Polish and Italian theologians representing various disciplines (exegesis, ecclesiology, missiology, pastoral theology, history, pedagogy), the book reflects on the essence, relevance, and challenges of the Church’s mission in the context of globalization, postmodernity, and intercultural dialogue. It emphasizes that mission is not limited to traditional ad gentes activity but also embraces new “areopagi”: the promotion of peace, the defense of human rights, care for creation, and building community across diverse social settings. The contributions highlight missionary dynamism as the foundation of the Church’s identity, the source of its vitality, and the reason for its glory. The publication is the fruit of an international symposium held in Rome (2019) and subsequent research in contemporary missiology, offering a profound theological and pastoral perspective.
