God’s mercy for the sick and dying in the “Diary” of St Faustina
Synopsis
This article discusses the issue of God’s mercy for the suffering and dying in the “Diary” of Sister Faustina. Mercy is the way in which God shows love to man. Every person needs God’s mercy in life and especially at the hour of death. It is available especially in the sacrament of penance, anointing of the sick and the Eucharist. Accompanying the suffering and dying is the duty of every Christian. For St Faustina, the most important form of help for the terminally ill became accompaniment through prayer. The Lord Jesus gave her a tool to practice mercy, and it is the Chaplet of Divine mercy. The promise of help for the dying is also associated with the cult of the image of the Merciful Jesus with the inscription “Jesus, I trust in You” and with the hour of mercy. The mercy of God extends to all except those who reject the grace of God. Those who die in the grace and friendship of God and are perfectly purified live forever with Christ.
