Synopsis

Thanatopedagogy, as a sub-discipline of special pedagogy, at its core, deals with experiencing and creating closeness in difficult situations that generate stress and anxiety. The issue of bereavement is a general human situation that is interpreted as part of the experience of stress and trauma. Thanatopedagogy in its work, on the one hand, seeks the theoretical basis for understanding this situation and the practical dimension for dealing with it. Culture, including religion, is an important part of these activities. The issue of understanding the meaning of the processes of funeral rituals can be an important element in supporting the help and care that thanatopedagogy brings to bereaved people.
