Synopsis

The virtual reality in which a mediatized society functions carries, in addition to its advantages, many risks. Some of them concern interpersonal relationships, which are weakened, disrupted and depersonalized through mediation by information technologies. Inappropriate use of social media exacerbates loneliness and confusion. Virtual communication cannot be treated on par with face-to-face encounters with others.
