Synopsis

The purpose of this article is to present the position of the Russian Orthodox Church in the context of ecumenical dialogue, particularly concerning relations between Catholicism and Orthodoxy. It is important to note that the socio-political situation in Russia significantly impacts the current ecumenical dialogue and internal church relations, which may lead to divisions among its believers. The article discusses the origins of actions that have influenced changes within the Church and society. It also presents the history of the Orthodox Church, including the challenges associated with ethnophilism, which are relevant in today’s context. Additionally, it includes statements from key Orthodox hierarchs that may have shaped the attitudes of their believers towards ecumenical dialogue. The article further emphasizes the sincere attempts of the Catholic Church to establish contact with the Moscow Patriarchate and the efforts to build bridges in interfaith relations.
