Should We Strive for the Creation of Universal Ethics?
Synopsis
The aim of this chapter is to present and critically analyze the concept of universal ethics, specifically Władysław Zuziak’s “mediation ethics.” In the first part, I introduce the concept of universal ethics as a single ethical school intended for universal acceptance, referring to this as “universal ethics in the first sense.” I highlight selected advantages and challenges associated with this concept, including the process of choosing such an ethics and the far-reaching implications of adopting it. This initial understanding of universal ethics serves as a reference point for analyzing Zuziak’s mediation ethics, which I describe as an example of the “second understanding of universal ethics.” In the main section of the chapter, I reconstruct Zuziak’s project, suggesting potential directions for its development and noting specific challenges related to its practical application.
