Synopsis

The Bible can be a good religious basis for developing mature patriotism as well as respect and love for nature. The world is a wonderful, beautiful work of God and his gift to man who should respect it and use it well. In the world, one own’s people and the inhabited land has special importance. For the Israelites, it was the Promised Land. Jesus, as a true Israelite, loved his countrymen, he lamented that many of them did not accept his teachings. He loved and admired his native land, he took examples from nature to show the Kingdom of God - supernatural realities. He respected the simple work of farmers and shepherds, he compared his and his disciples’ actions to it. The apostles also referred to  the phenomena of nature, respected their countrymen, although they suffered persecution on their part. They taught to respect social structures, human authorities, if they act fairly, because their task is to create conditions for living in security and peace (Rom 13:1-7; 1Tim 2:1-4; 1Pt 2:12-17). Today these indications are just as relevant.
